LLLT background:

In 1967, a few years after the first working laser was invented, Endre Mester at the Semmelweis University in Budapest wanted to find out if a laser might cause cancer. He shaved the fur off the backs of some mice, divided them into two groups and gave a laser treatment to one group, nothing to the other. The first group did not get cancer and to his surprise the hair on the treated group grew back more quickly than the untreated group. That was how ‘laser biostimulation’ was discovered. Nowadays, low energy phototherapy (LEDT) uses photochemical effects (of radiation on the body) and Low Level Laser Therapy in hair/scalp care.

Case study:

1. What is LLLT?

LLLT has been widely used in Europe for 30 years and has been the subject of numerous studies, with more than 3,500 scientific articles published worldwide. LLLT is a photochemical, non-thermal process.

Photons penetrate the dermis and are absorbed into the mitochondria and cell membranes. Inside the cells, the photon energy is converted into chemical energy in the form of an ATP. The permeability of the cell membrane changes, and this physiological change affects macrophages, fibroblasts, endothelial cells, mast cells and nerve conduction rates.

What is LEDT?

LEDT is a form of phototherapy that involves the application of non-coherent low power monochromatic light to stimulate the scalp.
